Biography
![]() Benjamin James Powell Lavender was born and raised in Austin, Texas, adopting the free-minded and artistic views of this unique community. After earning an Associates of Fine Art from Watkins College of Art and Design in Nashville Tennessee, Lavender moved to San Diego to explore new avenues for inspiration. Beginning an active studio career while working towards his Bachelors of Arts, at San Diego State University with an emphasis in sculpture, he quickly established himself in the local art scene. After receiving his degree in 2003, he has maintained the same rigorous schedule creating works of art varying from steel and concrete sculpture, paintings and mixed media relief’s, to custom furniture and woodworking. ![]() Often found working with several mediums simultaneously, Benjamin Lavender has created a diverse and prolific body of work. Through various solo and group shows Lavender has awed viewers with his sensitivity to materials and attention to detail. Stating that his inspiration comes primarily from the similarity among the natural forces of growth and erosion, it is clear that his inspired works are well planned and executed with the utmost care and craftsmanship. There is a clear vision of his ideas of beauty, utilizing raw industrial materials to mimic nature with the construction of our time. Lavender has exposed a new way to view and appreciate our surroundings. Through his remarkable natural talent and dedication to his craft Benjamin Lavender is proving to be a gifted and devoted artist, establishing a firm position in the region as a unique cultural asset. ![]() |
